Office Winhov and Unknown Architects have been working on two projects for Kroonenberg Groep in Amsterdam’s historic city centre.

The characteristic brick façade of Leidsestraat 67–71 was designed by G.A. Robool in 1925, before he became a draftsman for H.P. Berlage. As was common at the time, the building behind the façade was designed by a different architect: in this case J.K. Nieuwenhuyzen.

Originally, the ground and first floors housed the extravagant restaurant Bordelaise. Our design modernises the retail space while carefully reinterpreting the façade. Original materials, including bronze-colored window frames and Muschelkalk stone, reconnect the building with its history. A new, more prominent entrance will also provide improved access to the offices and apartments above.
